CRIMES (FORENSIC PROCEDURES) ACT 2000 - SECT 12

An "authorised applicant", for an offence in relation to which a forensic procedure is carried out or proposed to be carried out, is—

        (a)     the police officer in charge of a police station; or

        (b)     an investigating police officer; or

        (c)     the director of public prosecutions.
