CRIMES (CHILD SEX OFFENDERS) ACT 2005 - SECT 133B

Offence—failure to tell chief police officer about application to change offender's name

    (1)     A person commits an offence if the person—

        (a)     applies under a relevant law to change the name of a registrable offender; and

        (b)     fails to tell the chief police officer in writing about the application not later than 2 days after the day the person makes the application.

Maximum penalty: 500 penalty units, imprisonment for 5 years or both.

    (2)     In this section:

relevant law means—

        (a)     the Births, Deaths and Marriages Registration Act 1997

, part 3 (Change of name); or

        (b)     a law of a State or external territory that corresponds (or substantially corresponds) to the Births, Deaths and Marriages Registration Act 1997
