DANGEROUS SUBSTANCES (EXPLOSIVES) REGULATIONS 2004 (NO 10 OF 2004) - REG 237

Immediate action after a misfire

    (1)     If there is a misfire, the shotfirer must ensure that no person enters the blasting area until the end of whichever of the following periods apply, or, if more than 1 period applies, until the end of whichever of the following periods ends last:

        (a)     if safety fuse was used—30 minutes after use; or

        (b)     if a signal tube was used—5 minutes after use; or

        (c)     if electric detonators were used—5 minutes after the time the firing cables are disconnected and short-circuited.

    (2)     Subregulation (1) does not apply to a cut-off or butt.

    (3)     The shotfirer must, as soon as possible, tell the person controlling or managing the blasting site about any misfire.
