PUBLIC HEALTH REGULATIONS 2000 (2000 NO 1) - REG 5

What is a vaccine preventable disease?

(1)     For these regulations, the following diseases are vaccine preventable diseases :

        (a)     diphtheria;

    (b)     Haemophilus influenzae type b (hib) infection;

        (c)     measles;

        (d)     mumps;

        (e)     poliomyelitis;

        (f)     rubella (German measles);

        (g)     tetanus;

        (h)     pertussis (whooping cough);

              (i)     hepatitis B;

        (j)     a disease declared under subregulation (2).

(2)     The chief health officer may, by instrument—

        (a)     declare another disease to be a vaccine preventable disease; or

        (b)     declare that a disease (including a disease mentioned in paragraphs (1) (a) to (i)) is not a vaccine preventable disease.

(3)     A declaration under subregulation (2) is a disallowable instrument.
