Australian Capital Territory Numbered Regulations Australian Capital Territory Numbered Regulations(1) Before permitting someone else to drive a motor vehicle, the responsible person for, or the person in charge of, the vehicle must require the person to produce their Australian driver licence or external driver licence and must inspect the licence.
Maximum penalty: 20 penalty units.
(2) An offence against this section is a strict liability offence.
(3) It is a defence to a prosecution of a person for an offence against subsection (1) if the person proves that the person had taken reasonable steps (other than those mentioned in the subsection) to ensure the person permitted to drive the motor vehicle was the holder of a current Australian driver licence or external driver licence.
