WEAPONS REGULATIONS(AMENDMENT) (NO. 6 OF 1995) - REG 4

4. After regulation 9 of the Principal Regulations the following regulation is inserted:

Exemption—catapults

“9A. (1) A research body that manufactures, acquires or has a catapult in its possession is exempt from section 16 of the Act if the catapult—

        (a)     is manufactured, acquired or in its possession for use in plant or animal research;

        (b)     is kept in accordance with the guidelines in force under section 13; and

        (c)     bears a serial number allocated by the Registrar.

“(2) A person who is employed or engaged by a research body is exempt from section 16 of the Act if, for the purposes of that employment or engagement, the person possesses a catapult manufactured, acquired or in the possession of that body.

“(3) In this regulation—

‘research body' means the Australian National University or the University of Canberra.”.
