Gas Safety Amendment Regulation 2006 (No 1)

Background

The Gas Safety Act provides for the safe conduct of gasfitting work and consumer gas services in the Australian Capital Territory.

Section 24 of the Gas Safety Act 2001 (the Act) prohibits the sale, installation or use of unapproved appliances. Section 20 of the Act also provides that the Regulation may declare appliances of a stated kind to be approved. The existing Regulation only recognises a gas product certification scheme administered by the Australian Gas Association as a scheme under which appliances are deemed to be approved.

Outline

The Regulation amends the Gas Safety Regulation 2001.
Section 18B of the Regulation defines articles which are approved appliances for the purposes of section 24 of the Act.

The amendment inserts a paragraph (d). The effect of the new paragraph (d) is to recognise as an approved appliance “a type A appliance that is listed in the SAI Global On-Line Certification Register as currently certified”.

SAI Global maintains an online register of certified appliances. At the time of the making of this regulation, the register is located at http://www.saiglobal.com

. The register will list certified appliances.
