HEALTH PROFESSIONALS AMENDMENT REGULATION 2010 (No
1)
SL2010-13
Explanatory
Statement
Circulated
with the authority of
Katy Gallagher MLA
Minister for Health
This Regulation is authorised by section 134 of the Health
Professionals Act 2004.
The purpose of the amendment is to include the medical specialty of sport
and exercise medicine in the list of medical specialties contained in table 2.4
of schedule 2 (the medical practitioners’ schedule) of the Health
Professionals Regulation 2004.
The inclusion of sport and exercise
medicine for medical practitioners follows the approval of this specialty by the
Australian Medical Council (the AMC) which is the national accreditation body
for the medical profession. The list in table 2.4 not only lists the areas of
medical specialties but also the qualifications that have been approved by the
AMC for the purpose of professional registration in that specialty area. It is
imperative that the lists of specialties that have been approved by the AMC are
kept up to date to ensure that registration decisions in the ACT are supported
by the legislation.
There is no additional cost involved in this Regulation.
