EXPLANATORY STATEMENT


Authority


This Regulation is authorised by section 134 of the Health Professionals Act 2004.

Outline


The proposed amendments to the Health Professionals Regulation 2004 are for the purpose of repealing schedule 15 which governs the regulation of medical radiation scientists in the ACT which will from 1 July 2012 be registered under the National Law.

Revenue/Cost Implications


There is no additional cost involved in this Regulation.

Formal Clauses


Clause 1 – Name of Regulation – states the title of the Regulation, which is the Health Professionals Amendment Regulation 2012 (No 1).

Clause 2 – Commencement – states when the Regulation commences. The provisions commence on the 1 July 2012.

Clause 3 –Legislation amended – provides that this Regulation amends the Health Professionals Regulation 2004.

Clause 4 – Section120, example 2 –removes example 2 within the subsection because it is no longer covered under the Health Professionals Regulation 2004.

Clause 5 – Schedule 1, item 2 – removes medical radiation scientists from the list of regulated professions.

Clause 6 – Schedule 15 – removes the provisions that regulate medical radiation scientists.

Clause 7 – Dictionary – removes the definitions of diagnostic radiographer, medical radiation scientist, nuclear medicine scientist and radiation therapist from the dictionary.
