REGULATIONS (AMENDMENT)
EXPLANATORY STATEMENT

The Motor Omnibus Services Regulations (Amendment) (“the amending
Regulations”) amends the Motor Omnibus Services Regulations (“the
principal Regulations”) in order to control the consumption and carriage
of food and beverages on motor omnibuses in the Australian Capital
Territory.
Regulation 1 of the amending Regulations adds a new regulation
27A to the principal Regulations. Regulation 27A(1) prohibits people from
taking into or having on a bus any food of a kind normally intended for
immediate consumption, and any drink, that is not securely wrapped or contained.
Regulation 27A(2) prohibits the consumption of any food or drink on a
bus.
Regulation 2 of the amending Regulations amends Regulation 34 of the
principal Regulations to provide that a passenger who breaches the new
regulations 27A may be removed from the bus.
