EXPLANATORY STATEMENT

The Supervised Injecting Place Trial Act 1999 governs the establishment, composition and functions of the Supervised Drug Injection Trial Advisory Committee.

This Instrument makes the following regulations under the Supervised Injecting Place Trial Act 1999.

Clauses 1 and 2 – Name of regulations and commencement – are machinery provisions that specify the name of the regulations and provide for the commencement of their provisions.

Clause 3 – Reduction of Membership of advisory committee – Act, s 20 (2) – the clause reduces the membership of the Advisory Committee by omitting three organisations from the provision of membership – 1) the National Centre for Epidemiology and Health and 2) the Canberra Injectors Network and 3) the Australian Intravenous League.

Clause 4 – Extension of membership of advisory committee – Act s 20 (2) – the clause provides for the membership of the Advisory Committee to be extended by including persons nominated by certain organisations as listed in the Regulations.
