Commonwealth Consolidated Acts Commonwealth Consolidated Acts(1) The Judge Advocate General may, by instrument in writing, appoint officers to be Defence Force magistrates.
(1A) An appointment under subsection (1) is on a part - time basis.
(2) An officer is not eligible to be a Defence Force magistrate unless the officer is a member of the judge advocates' panel.
Note: A member of the judge advocates' panel is appointed for a maximum period of 5 years but is eligible for reappointment: see subsection 196(2A).
