NATIONAL PORTRAIT GALLERY OF AUSTRALIA ACT 2012 - SECT 7

Functions

  (1)   The functions of the Gallery are to:

  (a)   develop, preserve, maintain, promote and provide access to a national collection consisting of:

  (i)   portraits (including portraits that reflect the identity, history, diversity and culture of Australia); and

  (ii)   other works of art; and

  (iii)   related material; and

  (b)   develop and engage a national audience in relation to:

  (i)   that collection; and

  (ii)   other portraits, works of art and related material that are, or that will be, in the possession of the Gallery;

    including through exhibitions, education, research, publications and public and online programs.

  (2)   In performing its functions, the Gallery is, as far as practical, to:

  ( a )   use every endeavour to make the most advantageous use of th e national collection in the national interest; and

  ( b )   promote the efficient, effective, economical and ethical use of public resources.

Fees

  (3)   The Gallery may charge fees for things done in performing its functions or for other services provided by the Gallery.

  (4)   A fee must not be such as to amount to taxation.
