The land is being vacated by the Department of Defence and includes land at North Head, Middle Head, Georges Heights, Woolwich and Cockatoo Island. Suitable land with significant environmental and heritage values will be returned to the people of Australia.
The Parliament intends to establish the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust to manage the land and facilitate its return in good order. The Trust will protect the heritage values of the land.
