62A—Creating false belief as to events calling for police action
(1) A person who
intentionally creates a false belief that an offence has been committed, or
that life has or may have been lost or is endangered, is guilty of an offence.
Maximum penalty: $10 000 or imprisonment for 2 years.
(2) Upon convicting a
person of an offence against this section, a court may order the convicted
person to pay to the complainant a reasonable sum for the expenses of or
incidental to any investigation made by a police officer as a result of the
offence.
(3) An amount received
by the complainant under this section must be paid to the Treasurer in aid of
the Consolidated Account.
(4) In this
section—
"belief" includes suspicion.
