14—Jurisdiction of Magistrates Court
(1) Despite any
provision of the Magistrates Court Act 1991 , the Magistrates Court has
jurisdiction to hear and determine any application that may be made to a court
under this Act unless the application involves property with a value exceeding
$300 000.
(2) If the Magistrates
Court makes an order under this Act requiring a person to pay to any other
person, or to the Crown, a monetary amount exceeding the amount specified
under the Magistrates Court Act 1991 as the monetary limit on the Court's
civil jurisdiction in relation to actions to recover a debt—
(a) the
Principal Registrar of the Magistrates Court must issue a certificate
containing the particulars specified in the regulations in relation to the
order; and
(b) the
certificate may be registered, in accordance with the regulations, in the
District Court and, on registration, is enforceable in all respects as a final
judgment of the District Court.
(3) For the avoidance
of doubt, no monetary limit applies in relation to the jurisdiction conferred
on a magistrate under Part 2.
