The Secretary may appoint nominees to act for persons in relation to the BSWAT payment scheme. Some appointments will be made on the Secretary's own ini ti ative, and others at the request of the person, depending on the person's circumstances. Not everyone will have a nominee.

A nominee has a duty to ascertain the person's preferences in relation to the scheme, and to act in a way that gives effect to those preferences .
