(1) A doctor is authorised to issue a standing order for the administration of a medicine to patients at an institution if—
(a) a medicines and therapeutics committee for the institution has approved the order; and
(b) the order is signed by the chair of the committee.
Note Doctor does not include an intern doctor (see dict).
(2) In this section:
"medicines and therapeutics committee", for an institution, means a body—
(a) established by the institution to approve standing orders for the administration of medicines to patients at the institution; and
(b) that includes (but is not limited to) a doctor, nurse and pharmacist.
Note 1 Doctor and pharmacist do not include an intern (see dict).
Note 2 Nurse does not include an enrolled nurse (see Legislation Act, dict, pt 1).
